While pursuing my career as a professional windsurfer, competitions and travel stories have taken me to some of the best beaches around the world. Last year, I spent 6 months on the East Coast of Australia and New Zealand. I fell in love with the land and the endless miles of stunning beaches, where I often found myself in complete solitude. The raw beauty of the landscape and lively people from Down Under had me reaching for my camera like a crazed paparazzi. Here's just a few shots from my travels.

Maui Mom's

This winter I had the chance to photograph two of Maui's most radiant Mom's. Pre-natal photography is becoming more & more popular, and being in Maui it offers the colors, textures and lighting, arguably, of nowhere else in the world. With endless exotic locations to shoot, its a great opportunity for myself and mothers, to be creative and capture the natural wonder of child baring, in an environment which can only be described as "unpredictable mystique and beauty". How do you guarantee your family photo session on Maui captures the look you want. Follow these secrets:

I’ve been lucky to help many couples and families hold forever the magic of their time on Maui through captivating photographs. Along the way, I’ve learned some trade secrets that can mean the difference between a pleasant experience with great results and one that’s, well…not so great.

While the idea of getting a family photo on Maui should be easy to execute in theory, it can often cause people a lot of stress. After all, you go through a lot of effort to fit it in to your vacation, choose just the right thing to wear, and of course hope that you picked the photographer who can draw out your family’s unique personality and skillfully capture it forever in print. What to wear

Try to stick to solid colors as much as possible and stay away from very large prints. If you like the coordinated look, try mixing and matching complementary colors a little instead of having everyone wear one color on the bottom and the same color on the top, which can make everyone blend into each other. With a little mix and match, you will add definition and visual interest for the most natural photographs. Make sure your clothes are freshly pressed if possible.

Hair

Maui is nicknamed the "Windy Isle." We have regular trade winds that tend to be strong at times. So, if you have long hair, bring something to tie it up with. Keep in mind that Mother Nature might like to play with elaborate hairstyles. As for men with shorter hair, try using some gel or spray to minimize or control your hair sticking up in the wind – unless the Pee-wee Herman look works for you – then great! While not a meteorologist, the experienced Maui photographer can help you pick the right time of day and island location that provide the best chance of working with, and not against, the elements.

Attention Women

Avoid body lotion before your photo session. Maui’s beautiful beach sand loves to stick to the lotion on your skin. Often, family photos will include some sitting in the sand shots and it’s easier to transition if you’re not struggling to wipe off the sand.
